Trump's catastrophic policy feels like sabotage.
U.S. markets took a sharp downturn today following a significant sell-off in global stocks, triggered by Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on American imports. Economic leaders from major nations responded swiftly to the new trade measures, marking a notable escalation in tensions with the U.S., with some countries warning of possible retaliatory actions, starting trade wars on an unprecedented scale.
The S&P 500 plummeted over 4 percent, its worst single-day performance since 2022, reflecting steep declines across Asian and European markets as investors reacted negatively to the tariffs. In response, China pledged to implement countermeasures to protect its economic interests, with state media denouncing the tariffs as an act of “self-defeating bullying.” The Nasdaq, heavily weighted with technology stocks, has fallen nearly 5 percent.
Trump’s clown like Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick appeared on television throughout the day, defending the administration’s stance. In an interview with Fox News, he argued that the tariffs would spark a “renaissance” in American manufacturing, creating high-paying jobs even for workers without advanced education. “The best jobs, the most exciting jobs, they’re all coming back to the U.S.,” he falsely asserted, without evidence.
